IndieCity is on its way, I want in!

Hello again,

Most people don’t know what IndieCity is but that really should be changed.

IndieCity is an up and coming  indie game portal for PC, similar to steam but more community like and without all the fuss and nonsense that can be found when trying to get a game on Steam. What makes IndieCity special is that is purely for indie game and anyone who has a game can submit it! I highy recommend you check it out and get involved in the fun as I am planning to.

This brings me on to my next point, my lack of a Mac (and experience) I will not be putting the mystery game on the AppStore, rather I will be fleshing it out and putting high-end graphics on it and putting it on IndieCity! It will not be free im afraid as so much money has been spent on it and I will making a Rockethub crowd-funding campaign in the next month to fund the project further. The game will be very cheap so all people can be included!

Anyways I urge you to check out IndieCity here and tell everyone you know about IndieCity and my up and coming crowd-funding campaign were you will be able to get directly involved with the making of the game!

Game Concept Art

Hello again!

Firstly I would like to make any non-game developers aware that making games is an awful lot of effort and it is still going on behind the scenes, I just cant show you that much because there isn’t an awful lot to show, so for the time being I am going to use my website to talk about gaming and other cool stuff I may have in my head at the time!

Today, Skyrim! I am eagerly awaiting my copy in the post and I have spent my time watching trailers and looking at screenshot to make myself want it even more! While doing so I have noticed that it is a fest of the most beautiful game art I have ever seen! I mean just look at this:

Anyways I would like to do some concept art for the mystery game, if I ever get around to it!

Whats New

My bad for not posting, son!

I have been busy working on the mystery game so I haven’t been neglecting Peripheral Games, there just hasn’t been an awful lot to post about but here is the latest news! Oh and I don’t have any screenshots as I am not at my work computer right now but even so the game has no proper graphics and so doesn’t look very good any ways.

The game is still in pre-alpha and all the work has been focused on making the core gameplay as good as it can be. I have pretty much finished the character controller so player interaction feels great and doesn’t need to be altered to much.

I am currently working on an AI system built from scratch which is taking some time but will be great when it is done.  I have also started a side progect of making fancy super duper graphics rendered posters for the game which will give you a good idea of what it is about.

As always Twitter is the best way to keep up to date with Peripheral Games but I will try my best to keep the site updated and thanks for reading!

The future of the Mystery Game

When I designed the mystery game I intended for it to be a simple game I could make in a couple of weeks. But talks have happened in the last week and the mystery games direction has changed entirely.

Now before I tell you more I would look to put out a disclaimer that everything I say is subject to change, although I do rather hope it won’t.

The plan is the mystery game will become an appstore app for iOS. I will be putting my all in to it over the next few months and making it as good as can be. I have also made so drastic changes to the management here at Peripheral Games  to make sure the mistakes made in Dead Lep Revenge will not happen ever again. Just so you don’t get bored here’s a screenshot of one of the characters being made:

First I will be working purely on game play and core design for Alpha. There will be near to no content and no fancy graphics, just the core mechanics. This way I can perfect them so time is not lost if drastic changes are needed(which they wont be).

After this I will put some fancy graphics on it and make a trailer which I hope to be using to get funding from Kickstarter.

As always the best place to get news asap from us is our twitter and don’t forget to tell me what you think!

Time to get back into PG

I do really apologise for my lack of activity the last week. Life can been busy at times as many of you know. I am back now and I am going to make a valiant effort to put up a post every couple of nights.

This is the important bit, I often don’t put up posts because I have not been doing any game making and so I have nothing to put up. If I haven’t posted in a day or two and I have nothing to post I am just going to post stuff relating to games in general. This will keep the site active and hopefully interesting.

I have wrapped up Dead Lep Revenge finally. It really didn’t go to plan but I will learn from it and hopefully make better games in the future! This winners of the competition will get to play it first and everyone else about a week later.

With regards to the mystery game I have been doing some work on it and will put a post continuing my “how I make games” series tomorrow, for now here’s some concept art I did in Inkscape. Thanks for reading and be sure to come back!

How I Make Games: Intro

A few weeks ago I spoke about tutorials. Well this is what I have come up with! Its not really a tutorial but more of a deeper look into what goes on behind the scenes of game development.

As I have said I am not a professional game developer and some of my methods may not be exactly the same as a big game studio. Basically what will happen is I will document everything I do in the making of the game from making the art to the programming its self. The game I make will be open source so I will upload everything only when it is finished.

The game being made will be the mystery game, which still doesn’t have a name so please if anyone has any suggestions please say so.

I do hope you enjoy the series. The first part will be fairly small and be mainly about the planning and designing of the game, after that I will start on the art and everything will be uploaded for everyone to see! Thanks for reading!

The mystery game revealed!

I do think it is time, but first; as I have told you in my last post I am constantly learning new things and new ways of making games and my recent discovery was Inkscape. It is a free, open source vector graphics software and an alternative to Adobe Illustrator. I have been playing with it and learning how to use it and it is amazing. I am going to use it, along with Blender to make 2d games from now on.

People familiar with Blender know it is a 3D modelling and animation software, like Maya but free, and yes I said I was going to use it for 2D animation. I did some experiments on it over the weekend and found it is great for 2D animation as well.

Now on to the Mystery Game! After Dead Lep Revenge not quite working out exactly right I decided to make a smaller simpler game with fun addictive gameplay. This is were the mystery game came from. I have only been working on a prototype for a week now it is very new and fantastic but still.

In the game there is a randomly generated level with platforms. You start at the top and have to get to prize at the bottom and bring it to the top. There is however guards in the way that will stop you. You will have no weapons so its purely a strategy and puzzle game!

Tell me what you think, oh and it doesn’t actually have a name yet so this is were you come in. Leave your name suggestions in the comments or send me a tweet  and hopefully we can find a cool name! Thanks for reading!

Our Plans And A New Game Announced!

Right there is some big news as this post contains my plans for the rest of the year!

Firstly the mystery game was going to be Dead Lep Revenge 2 but I have changed the old Dead Lep Revenge to the “concept”. Dead Lep Revenge has been in planning for over a month now and is just starting to be made.

My plans are to make one of the levels perfect and release it as the Dead Lep Revenge Demo, this will come out in the next 2 months. the full game will take a while to make and will be out sometime between October and November. Keep in mind the release dates are not definite and are subject to change.

Another surprise for you is that I have plans for a small pick up and play game that will be released between the Dead Lep Revenge Demo and the full game. This will now become the mystery game!

Ok more about Dead Lep revenge, this will be a much bigger better experience than anything we have ever done. It will have a campaign mode and a free play mode that may have(definitely not confirmed) online leaderboards!

I think I will leave more details for another day so thanks for reading and happy Indie Games!

Back To Work

I am back from my holiday and Peripheral games is up and going again! I just arrived home a couple of hours ago and I’m still getting setup but Peripheral Games should be working in full force by tomorrow.

Anyways a game has been planned and designs and plans have been under construction for quite a few weeks, I cannot tell you much about it until development is in full swing though. I am having to invest some money into the next game so it is planned to be our best yet.

Thanks for reading and don’t forget to comment!
